“Nous sommes TOUS Charlie Hebdo”
This has nothing to do with
Meryl Streep, but I felt like I had to write this. Not only because I am a
writer myself, also because this involves absolutely everyone.
2015 starts, we all go to our
beloved ones and wish them the best for this new year. Somehow we all think it’s
a little cliché, and how many people truly wish you the best? But somewhere
inside, we all look back at last year, at all the sad things that happened, the
terroristic attacks of the Islamic State, the plane crashes, the wars, and we
hope that 2015 may be a little brighter. We all hope that this new year will
bring more joy, not only for ourselves but for everyone. A week after New Year,
twelve innocent people get killed and five extremely injured in the name of a
religion. Families get ripped apart. But this wasn’t just an attack on a satirical
paper, this was an attack on OUR freedom of press, for which people have fought
and given their lives. And with that, it was also an attack on democracy. 2015,
a society we call ‘civilized’, a society in which everyone should feel free to
say their opinions without being afraid or threatened. Their intention was to
break France ,
the result is a country stronger than ever before. Because we all stick
together, because we are all Charlie Hebdo.
My prayers go out to the family
and friends of the victims.
